Infrared optical constants of a ternary system of 75% H2SO4, 10% HNO3, and 15% H2O

In this study, researchers conducted measurements of near-normal incidence reflectance for two different solutions: a ternary system consisting of 75% H2SO4, 10% HNO3, and 15% H2O, and a 10% aqueous solution of HNO3. These measurements were taken at ambient temperature across a broad spectral range.

The researchers used a Kramers–Kronig phase-shift analysis to determine both the real and imaginary components of the refractive index for each of the tested solutions. They then compared the spectral reflectance of the ternary system with that of the 10% HNO3 solution and with the spectral data of a 75% H2SO4 solution obtained in a previous study.

The primary aim of this research is to provide valuable data for the study of aerosol formation involving the ternary system in the stratosphere, offering insights into its optical properties and behavior.
