Personal profile

I am an educator, analytical chemist, environmentalist, and laboratory manager with a strong background in computational chemistry. My academic journey began at the University of Nairobi, Kenya, where I earned my B.Sc. in Chemistry in 1989. I then pursued my M.S. in Environmental Analytical Chemistry at Hampton University, VA, in 2000. My Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry was completed at The Ohio State University, OH, in 2006.

Throughout my career, I have held various positions in academia, including serving as a Professor of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Stephen F. Austin State University since 2016. Prior to that, I was an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the same institution from 2012 to 2016, and an Assistant Professor of Chemistry from 2006 to 2012.

My research interests span across analytical, environmental, computational, and physical-organic chemistry. I have conducted extensive studies on plant bioremediation, metal speciation in composted wastewater sludges, and the synthesis and characterization of nitrated Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs).

I have also been involved in various research funding activities, both internal and external, and have received several fellowships, honors, and awards throughout my career. As a mentor, I have advised and guided numerous undergraduate and graduate students in their research projects. My mission is to continue contributing to the field of chemistry through education, research, and laboratory management.
